TW: ABUSE, MATURE THEMES.

Fingers interlaced.

I couldn't look at your face.

Couldn't keep up with your pace.

You were better than me.

I couldn't compete.

Hell, I couldn't even sleep.

I couldn't remember a time without you.

What was I going to do?

Deep breaths, they'd say.

All our memories, they'd play.

My brain full to the brim.

I couldn't even believe you'd trust him.

He constantly let you down.

He constantly made you frown.

And yet, you stuck around.

You knew what he was capable of.

But you still held him above.

What had you become?

A new person, yes.

A bad person. no.

You were better than that.

You could even ask your cat.

If he could speak, he'd praise you.

But that didn't phase you.

Days became weeks.

Weeks became months.

A whole year until they found you.

A pile of dirt and debris surround you.

Atrocious is a nice word.

All the cops began to herd.

And now as I lifted my eyes.

I couldn't help but cry.

He had abused you.

He had hurt you.

And I couldn't even

Protect you.
